We’ll show you how to easily find and change the IP address of your Mac.

Here, clickNetworkfrom the left sidebar to launch the relevant menu.

On the resulting page, you’ll see the name of your current web link at the top.

Click theDetailsbutton next to this to open a new window with full information about the data pipe.

For convenience, theRouter’s IP address is also shown.

it’s possible for you to select these addresses to copy and paste them elsewhere.

Open Terminal by searching for it on Spotlight (Cmd +Space).

To change your Mac’s IP address, head back to the sameNetworkmenu mentioned above.

On the window where you confirmed your Mac’s IP address, click theTCP/IPmenu on the left.

This shows more details about your Mac’s current web connection connection.

Next toConfigure IPv4, you’ll probably seeUsing DHCP.

DHCP, or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, allows routers to automatically manage IP addresses.

To get a new IP address from your router, click theRenew DHCP Leasebutton.

To set a static IP address on your Mac, return to theTCP/IPtab mentioned above.

In theConfigure IPv4field, clickUsing DHCPand change it toUsing DHCP with manual address.

you’re free to also chooseManuallyif you want.

Otherwise, you’ll create a duplicate IP problem.

To do so, you first need to know the IP format of your online grid.

You’ll find this on theTCP/IPtab visited earlierthe address of theRouteris the format your connection uses.

Once you know, useCmd + Spaceto open Spotlight and search for Terminal.

This displays all IP addresses on your web link at once, showing what’s already in use.

When your ping to an IP repeatedly showsRequest timeout, you’ve found a free address.

you could enter that IP address in theIPv4 Addressfield of theNetworksettings page.

Reserved IP in ASUS Router

That way, your router knows that your Mac expects to always use the same address.

IP address reservation options will differ slightly depending on your router.

On my ASUS router, for instance, the relevant menu is underLAN > DHCP Server.
