If you’re assessing someone else’s writing for originality, an AI detector may be beneficial.
Two popular AI text checkers are GPTZero and Originality.ai, but which of these is best for you?
So, how do the two AI detectors measure up on the surface?
Both GPTZero and Originality.ai are available around the world and can be accessed via all major browsers.
Price and Plans
GPTZero can be used for free with its basic version.
This allows you to enter a block of text up to 5,000 characters long per scan.
GPTZero has three paid plan tiers: Essential, Premium, and Professional.
Originality.ai has two paid plans and does not offer a free version or trial of the tool.
Below are Originality.ai’s two paid plans:
The base subscription is a no-commitment monthly plan.
There is no contract, and it’s possible for you to cancel at any time.
The pay-as-you-go subscription incurs a $30 payment for an annual subscription.
This may seem incredibly affordable, but this plan comes with limited credits you must pay to top up.
The pay-as-you-go plan also has fewer features, which we’ll discuss a little later.
We provided each tool with three different blocks of text.
We also entered a block of nonsensical text to see how each AI detection tool would measure up.
The first nonsensical excerpt was created originally, while the second was created by ChatGPT.
Here’s what we got in response.
GPTZero’s AI Detection Rate
Let’s start with GPTZero’s AI detection accuracy.
Therefore, GPTZero failed to determine that the text scanned was original.
This means that GPTZero was close to entirely successful at detecting the presence of AI-generated content.
GPTZero concluded that there was a 91 percent chance the content scanned was AI-generated.
In this case, its conclusion was incorrect.
Originality.ai concluded that the entirely original piece entered into the scanner had an 81 percent chance of being AI-generated.
This is 17 percent lower than ZeroGPT’s conclusion but is still highly inaccurate.
Originality.ai was 100 percent successful in detecting the text sample that was entirely created by ChatGPT.
Additional Features
GPTZero and Originality.ai don’t just offer AI detection.
These platforms also come with a number of additional useful features.
